Liquid Death's rewards program pays out in Skulls. Members earn 1 Skull for every $1 spent on liquiddeath.com, plus a handful for signing up, following on social media, celebrating a birthday and buying Liquid Death at other retailers, then trade them in for free merch. Every reward is priced at 10 Skulls per dollar of the item's price, which makes a Skull worth 10 cents and the program a flat 10% back in merch.

Last checked on 23 October 2026 against Liquid Death's Earn Skulls page, its rewards panel and the rewards section of its FAQ.

This guide is written by Graeme, co-founder of Mage, a loyalty and customer accounts platform for Shopify.

How to join Liquid Death rewards

Creating a Liquid Death account on liquiddeath.com enrolls you, and the signup itself earns 5 Skulls. Your balance, the ways to earn and the full list of rewards sit in the rewards panel on the Earn Skulls page and in your account.

Online orders are where most Skulls come from: everything except the purchase rate is a one-off bonus of 5 to 25 Skulls. The Earn Skulls page also lists writing a review and referring a friend, and the FAQ mentions Skulls for a first review and for bringing friends in, but the rewards panel doesn't show an amount for either.

Earning Skulls on water bought in stores

Liquid Death is sold through retailers such as Target, Walmart and Amazon as well as on its own site, and the program has two ways to count those purchases. Members can link their Target, Walmart and Amazon accounts for 5 Skulls each, and they can text Liquid Death a photo of a receipt from another retailer for 5 Skulls per unique receipt.

The FAQ sets out the receipt rules: the photo has to be clear, sent within 30 days of the purchase, one receipt at a time, and it can't be a receipt from liquiddeath.com. Liquid Death says it will "ignore the other weird sh*t you bought".

What Liquid Death Skulls are worth

Every reward is free merch, and on 23 October 2026 each one cost 10 Skulls for every dollar of the item's price on liquiddeath.com. That held for all 46 rewards that match a product in the store, sale items included: a Metallica tour sweatshirt on sale at $40, down from $59, cost 400 Skulls. So a Skull is worth 10 cents, and 1 Skull per $1 spent works out at 10% back in merch.

Lil' Deathies Can Cooler$25250
Field of Screams Baseball Cap$35350

Classic Death Hoodie$62620
Team Death Baseball Jersey$1191,190
Drip Club LED Neon Sign$2752,750

The cheapest reward, an 80-Skull pet toy, takes about $75 of orders after the 5 signup Skulls. A Classic Death Hoodie takes $620. The one-off bonuses for signing up, social follows and shares, linking retailer accounts and a birthday come to 75 Skulls in total, worth $7.50 and almost enough for that first reward.

How to redeem Skulls

Once you have enough Skulls, choose a reward from the Ways to Redeem list in the rewards panel or your account. The 52 rewards on 23 October 2026 ran from pet toys and koozies at 80 to 90 Skulls, through hats, shirts and hoodies, to a hammock, beach chairs and an LED neon sign at 2,750.

Rewards are merch only. The list has no Liquid Death water or other drinks, and the FAQ confirms Skulls can't be redeemed for Liquid Death water on Amazon.

What happened to the Liquid Death Country Club?

The Liquid Death Country Club is separate from Skulls. The FAQ describes it as "our loyalty program", which has offered early access to merch, exclusive merch for members and access to a physical Country Club at Live Nation festivals. On 23 October 2026 the FAQ said the Country Club is "going through an overhaul for 2026 and is currently offline", and suggested joining the email list to hear when it returns. Skulls are the rewards program running in the meantime.

The fine print

  • Skulls earn only on liquiddeath.com orders; purchases elsewhere earn 5 Skulls per receipt instead.
  • Receipts have to be clear, sent within 30 days, one at a time, and not from liquiddeath.com.
  • Rewards are merch only, and Skulls can't be used for water on Amazon.
  • There are no tiers or multipliers: every member earns at the same rate.
  • Liquid Death's program pages and FAQ don't state whether Skulls expire, and its terms cover loyalty programs only in general terms.

What stands out about Liquid Death's program

A flat, generous rate. Pricing every reward at 10 Skulls per dollar makes the value easy to check against the store, and 10% back is a generous rate. A hoodie in the store is a hoodie in the rewards list at ten times the price in Skulls.

It reaches shoppers who never visit the website. For a drink sold widely through retailers, the receipt and account-linking rewards are the part that matters. A small reward per receipt gives store buyers a reason to create an account, which turns an anonymous purchase at a supermarket into a known customer.

The brand voice carries through. "Collect Skulls, get cool sh*t" and a promise to ignore the other things on your receipt are the program's copy, not a generic template, so it feels like part of the brand.

What members should know going in:

  • Only online orders earn at the full rate. A receipt from a store earns 5 Skulls whatever it's for, so regular buyers of cases in stores earn far less than they would online.
  • Reviews and referrals show no amounts. Both are listed on the Earn Skulls page, but the rewards panel doesn't include them.
  • Expiry isn't stated. None of the program pages say whether unused Skulls expire.
  • The Country Club is on hold. Its early access and festival perks aren't available while it's offline.

Is Liquid Death's rewards program worth joining?

If you buy Liquid Death merch or order drinks on liquiddeath.com, yes. It's free, and 10% back in merch is a good rate. The one-off bonuses alone come to 75 Skulls, five short of the cheapest reward.

If you only buy cans in stores, the receipts still add up, but slowly: at 5 Skulls a receipt, the cheapest reward takes about 15 receipts.

What Shopify brands can learn from Liquid Death's program

Liquid Death's program is a lesson in matching rewards to where customers actually buy. Four ideas carry over:

  1. Reward purchases you didn't process. Receipt uploads and linked retailer accounts give wholesale and retail buyers a reason to join your program.
  2. Price rewards at a visible rate. A fixed points-per-dollar price on every reward lets customers check the value for themselves.
  3. Make rewards your own merch. Free products cost the brand less than their retail value and put the brand on customers' heads and in their homes.
  4. Write the program in your brand's voice. A program that sounds like the brand gets read; one that sounds like a template gets skipped.

If you're building a Shopify loyalty program like this, Mage covers most of it. Purchases can earn at a rate such as 1 point per $1, with bonus points for signups, birthdays and social follows. Receipt scanning, on the Growth plan and above, lets customers snap a receipt from a stockist or a pop-up and earn points on the same balance as their online orders, with fraud detection built in. Free product rewards apply at Shopify checkout, with an option to add the product to the cart in one click.

You can also earn Skulls for social follows and shares, your birthday, linking your Target, Walmart and Amazon accounts, and sending receipts from other retailers.

How do referral programs work? A referral program is a structured marketing system that turns existing customers into a measurable acquisition channel: a customer shares a unique link or code, a friend buys through it, the system attributes that sale, and both people get a reward. Unlike organic word of mouth, it closes the loop so you know exactly who drove which order.

Loyalty Discounts: How They Work + Examples to Boost Sales

Here is the most expensive myth in retail: that all discounts erode margin and train shoppers to wait for a deal. It is half true, and the half that is wrong costs brands real money. Loyalty discounts, the price breaks and reward credits a customer earns through a points balance, a membership, or a spending tier, behave nothing like a sitewide coupon. A blanket promotion is available to anyone before they decide to buy, so it subsidizes people who would have paid full price anyway. An earned reward arrives after repeated purchases, which reinforces commitment instead of teaching impatience.
