Nike Membership is Nike's free membership program for customers in the US, and it has no points and no tiers. Anyone who has logged into a Nike app counts as a member, and every member gets the same benefits: free shipping on orders of $50 or more (guests need $75), a 60-day return window that Nike calls the Wear Test, free returns, receipt-free returns in store and in the app, member-only experiences and access to Nike's apps, SNKRS and Nike By You. Members also get a one-time 10% birthday discount, worth up to $50.
Last checked against Nike's membership page, and its help articles on shipping, returns and the birthday discount, all as of 24 October 2026.

Who is a Nike Member?
Nike's membership page puts it simply: if you've ever logged into a Nike app, you're a member. Joining is free ("100% yes", in Nike's words), there's one level, and every benefit is available to every member from the start. You can also sign up on the membership page.
On Nike's own description, membership and having an account come to much the same thing. There's no points balance to track and no spend to reach.
Nike Membership benefits
The membership page and Nike's help articles list these benefits:
- Free shipping on every order of $50 or more.
- Wear Test: try it for 60 days, and return it if it's not a fit. The page notes it excludes Nike Clearance stores.
- Receiptless returns: return or exchange receipt-free in store or in the Nike App.
- Member experiences: live, member-only events.
- Nike Experts: sport and style advice from experts.
- Birthday discount: a 10% offer, covered below.
- Access to Nike's apps and services: the Nike App, Nike Run Club, Nike Training Club, SNKRS and Nike By You, Nike's customization service.
Free shipping for Nike Members
Nike sets a lower free-shipping threshold for members than for guests, and charges members less for faster delivery:
| Shipping option | Nike Members | Guests |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Free on $50 or more, otherwise $5 | Free on $75 or more, otherwise $8 |
| Faster | $15 | $20 |
| Fastest | $25 | $30 |
| Same-day store pickup (eligible orders) | Free | Free |
Members need to sign in at checkout to get free shipping automatically. Shipping is worked out on the order total after discounts and before tax. Nike doesn't ship internationally or to US territories.
What membership is worth on shipping
The difference only shows on orders under $75:
| Order total | Member pays (standard) | Guest pays (standard) | Member saves |
|---|---|---|---|
| $40 | $5 | $8 | $3 |
| $60 | $0 | $8 | $8 |
| $80 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
On faster and fastest shipping, members save $5 on any order. A member who places four $60 orders a year saves $32 on standard shipping.
The 60-day Wear Test and free returns
Nike's returns policy gives 60 days to return or exchange an online order after delivery, or a Nike store purchase. The membership page presents this as the Wear Test: "Not sure? Try it for 60 days, return if it's not a fit." Returns are free for Nike Members.
There are exceptions:
- Items bought at Nike Clearance stores can't be returned or exchanged.
- Custom Jersey By You soccer jerseys can't be returned.
- Nike jewelry has to be unworn and in its original condition and packaging.
- Nike x LEGO sets have to be sealed and unopened.
The membership page says members can return or exchange receipt-free in store or in the Nike App, while the returns policy says proof of purchase is required. Nike doesn't explain how the two fit together on those pages. The policy also says Nike may ask for ID on returns, and can limit returns or exchanges, with or without receipts, for any reason.
The Nike Member birthday discount
Members get a 10% discount for their birthday if they joined before it. The discount activates on your birthday and stays active for around 60 days, and it's applied automatically to your first eligible order when you're signed in. If you opt in to emails and app notifications, Nike tells you when it's live.
The terms limit it:
- You need to spend at least $100.
- The 10% applies to the first $500 of a qualifying purchase, so the most it can take off is $50.
- It's one-time use, and it can only be combined with free shipping promo codes.
- It works on Nike.com, the Nike App and Nike stores in the US, but not on Swoosh.com or at Nike employee stores.
- It doesn't apply to Nike By You, gift cards, select launch and SNKRS products or Apple products.
- It expires on the date and time shown in your birthday email.
Apps and experiences
Nike builds the membership around its apps. The membership page lists the Nike App ("keep up daily with the best of Nike, personalized for you"), Nike Run Club, Nike Training Club and SNKRS, where members can find new sneaker drops. Nike By You lets members customize products. Member experiences are live, member-only events.
Nike also lists student, military, teacher and first responder discounts, and the birthday discount, separately under "Promotions & Discounts" in its footer.
Does Nike Membership have points or tiers?
No. The membership page lists no points, no balance, no tiers and no rewards catalogue. Every member gets the same benefits, and what you spend doesn't change them.
The fine print
- Free shipping needs a sign-in at checkout and a $50 order, and standard and expedited delivery times don't apply to Nike By You orders.
- Returns are free for members but exclude Clearance store purchases and some products, and Nike can ask for ID and limit returns.
- The birthday discount needs a $100 minimum, covers the first $500, can be used once and excludes some products.
- Nike can cancel or change the birthday discount at any time.
What stands out about Nike Membership
Everyone is a member. Logging into any Nike app makes you one, so there's no sign-up step and no level to reach. Membership and having an account are the same thing.
Shipping is priced with a gap, not given away. Members get free standard shipping at $50 and guests at $75. A $25 gap is a modest cost for Nike and a reason for customers to sign in. Other programs in this series, such as Foot Locker's FLX Rewards and The North Face's XPLR Pass, give members free standard shipping with no minimum.
The return window is the headline. A 60-day trial, free returns for members and receipt-free returns make buying a pair of shoes online lower risk. The benefit only costs Nike money when someone uses it.
The apps are the program. The Nike App, Nike Run Club, Nike Training Club and SNKRS are listed as part of membership, which gives members somewhere to go between purchases.
The birthday offer is capped. 10% off, a $100 minimum, the first $500 and one use means the most it can cost is $50 a member.
What members should know going in:
- There are no points to build up. Nothing accumulates, so there's no extra reward for spending more.
- The free shipping gap only matters under $75. Above that, guests ship free too.
- The Wear Test has exceptions. Clearance stores, custom jerseys, jewelry and LEGO sets are treated differently.
- The birthday discount needs a $100 order and excludes SNKRS launches and Nike By You.
Is Nike Membership worth joining?
Yes. It's free, you're probably a member already if you've used a Nike app, and signing in at checkout gets you cheaper shipping and free returns. If you order sneakers online and aren't sure about the fit, a 60-day return window with free returns is the biggest benefit.
It's a service-led program, not a rewards one. If you want points or money off for what you spend, Nike Membership doesn't offer that. What you do get is lower shipping costs, free returns and access to the apps and drops.
What Shopify brands can learn from Nike Membership
Nike's membership works for a product people want to try before they commit to it, and four ideas carry over to Shopify brands that sell footwear, apparel and gear:
- Make the account the membership. Nike counts anyone who logs in. The fewer steps between a customer and being recognised as a member, the more customers you can recognise.
- Set a lower free-shipping threshold for members. A gap of $25 between members and guests costs you little and gives customers a reason to create an account.
- Turn the return window into a feature. Naming it, as Nike does with the Wear Test, and making returns free for members turns something customers worry about into a reason to buy.
- Cap the birthday offer. A percentage, a minimum order, a cap on the amount and a fixed window tell you exactly what each birthday can cost.
If you're building a Shopify loyalty program like this, Mage covers part of it. Every member is tagged automatically in Shopify, which you can use for segments, Shopify Flow, discounts and free shipping at checkout, so a lower free-shipping threshold for members is something you set up in Shopify. A Signup Bonus rewards account creation, and a Birthday Bonus pays once a year once the customer has saved their birthday. Rewards apply at Shopify checkout with no code to copy.
