Walmart+ is a paid membership, not a points program. In the US, members pay $12.95 a month or $98 a year for free delivery from stores, free shipping with no order minimum, fuel savings, a choice of Paramount+ or Peacock and a bundle of partner perks, and there are no points or tiers. The closest thing to a currency is Walmart Cash, which comes from specific offers such as booking travel, not from everyday spending. Since 20 October 2026 Walmart also sells the membership together with Sam's Club Plus for $120 a year.

Last checked on 27 October 2026 against Walmart's announcement of the Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus bundle (20 October 2026), the Walmart+ page as of 27 October 2026, the Walmart+ Terms of Use (last updated 30 June 2026), the Walmart+ Assist page as of 8 August 2026 and the Walmart Cash terms (last updated 19 May 2026) and Walmart's annual report on Form 10-K for the year ended 31 January 2026, for the US in US dollars.

This guide is written by Graeme, co-founder of Mage, a loyalty and customer accounts platform for Shopify.

How to join Walmart+

You join in the Walmart app or at walmart.com/plus by choosing a monthly or annual term and keeping a payment method on file. Eligible customers are offered a 30 day trial for $1, which converts to a full-price plan unless you cancel first, and only one trial is allowed per customer. Trial members get most benefits, but exclusive member events open only after the trial. These details come from the Walmart+ page as of 8 October, before Walmart began selling Walmart+ with Sam's Club Plus on 20 October (see the bundle below).

Plans and what they cost

Walmart+ monthly$12.95 a monthAnyone with a US billing address
Walmart+ annual$98 a yearAnyone with a US billing address

Walmart+ Student$6.47 a month or $49 a yearStudents at Title IV accredited US colleges and universities

Assist and Student members get the same benefits at half the price. Eligibility is checked through a third-party verification service and re-verified each year, and if re-verification fails the plan renews at the standard price.

Walmart+ plans: the $120 Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus bundle, the base plan with a 30 day trial for $1, and Assist and Student at $49 a year or $6.47 a month

The Walmart+ plans on the Walmart+ page as of 27 October 2026.

Some arithmetic of our own: twelve months of the monthly plan is $155.40, so the $98 annual plan saves $57.40, about 37%, and works out at $8.17 a month.

What Walmart+ includes

  • Free delivery: Delivery from your store is free on orders of $35 or more, as soon as the same day, and Express Delivery carries a $10 fee for members against $17.95 to $19.95 for non-members, which may vary by location. Free pharmacy delivery has no order minimum.
  • Free shipping: Next-day and two-day shipping from Walmart.com has no order minimum on eligible items, which are marked with a "W+ Free shipping" badge. Most Marketplace items are excluded.
  • Fuel: 10 cents a gallon off at Walmart, CITGO, Exxon, Mobil and Murphy stations (5 to 10 cents in Alabama), plus member prices at Sam's Club. CITGO joined on 14 September 2026, taking the network to more than 17,000 stations.
  • Streaming: One ad-supported service, Paramount+ Essential or Peacock Premium, which members can switch between every 90 days. Ad-free plans cost extra and are billed by Walmart.
  • Scan & Go and returns: Checking out by phone in stores, and free returns picked up from home in select locations.

Partner perks include Burger King (25% off a digital order once a day and a free Whopper once a quarter), online pet care from Pawp, and free tire repair and a road hazard warranty at Walmart Auto Care Centers (not in New York). In select stores, members also get 25 free photo prints a month. Fee-based add-ons, which Walmart calls Plus Up Benefits, cover Walmart+ InHome and the ad-free streaming plans.

Paid members also get early access to online-only hot deals for Black Friday and similar events. For Walmart Deals on 22 to 28 June 2026, early access ran for the first 24 hours and excluded $1 trial members, free trial Student members and Assist members. Walmart+ Week, a members-only sale held on 28 April to 4 May 2025, has no 2026 announcement on Walmart's news pages as of 27 October.

Walmart Cash and the OnePay card

Walmart+ has no points, but Walmart Cash, which Walmart describes as loyalty, award and promotional credit, works like a currency attached to specific offers:

OfferWhat it pays
Walmart+ Travel, powered by Expedia10% of the booking, or 2% on flights, excluding taxes and fees
Limited-time member perksSet per event; Walmart+ Week 2025 paid $5 for one Scan & Go order of $15 or more and $10 for using two or more offers
Manufacturer offersThe value of a digital rebate, for any Walmart account holder, member or not

Walmart Cash does not expire but needs a Walmart account in good standing. Members redeem it as an eGift card applied at checkout, or cash it out once the balance reaches $25 at a Walmart Money Center. Travel cash becomes available about 30 days after the booking (about 90 days for pay later car rentals), and closing the account forfeits any unredeemed balance.

The OnePay CashRewards World Mastercard pays 5% back on purchases at Walmart for Walmart+ members, in OnePay Points at 5 points per $1, and 3% if the cardholder isn't a member. Sam's Club, third-party sellers on Walmart.com and Expedia bookings don't count as Walmart purchases for the 5%. The card has its own approval and terms.

The Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus bundle

On 20 October 2026 Walmart began selling Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus together for $120 a year, which it calls the equivalent of $10 a month and almost $100 less than paying for the two memberships separately. The bundle adds to the Walmart+ benefits:

  • Sam's Club access with member-only prices on brand-name products and Member's Mark items
  • 2% Sam's Cash on eligible purchases, up to $750 a year (our arithmetic: $37,500 of eligible spend at 2%)
  • Free delivery from Walmart and Sam's Club, with a $35 minimum on scheduled Walmart orders and $50 at Sam's Club

Existing members can move across:

Current membershipMove to the bundle
Walmart+ annual$22 more a year (our arithmetic: $98 plus $22 is $120)
Sam's Club$60 more a year, upgrading to Sam's Club Plus with Walmart+ included
Sam's Club PlusActivate Walmart+ at no extra cost
Paying for bothLink the accounts; most members are eligible for a prorated Walmart+ refund

Pausing, cancelling and refunds

You can cancel any time from Account, then Walmart+, or by calling Walmart Customer Care. Benefits continue until the end of the current term, and the fee is non-refundable except where the terms say otherwise. Cancelling during a trial can end the membership immediately, without a refund. Walmart can end a membership at its discretion, and may refund the unused term unless the cause is misuse.

Paid monthly and annual members without a Plus Up benefit can pause for one month at a time, up to three times in a rolling 12 months. Benefits stop at the end of the billing cycle and the membership resumes automatically. Existing members who switch to Assist have the unused portion of the old plan refunded.

What Walmart doesn't publish

  • How many members Walmart+ has. Walmart's annual report for the year ended 31 January 2026 gives no member count. It reports Walmart U.S. membership and other income of $2,624 million, against $2,594 million a year earlier, and attributes the rise to double-digit growth in Walmart+ fee revenue, but the line includes other income and doesn't isolate Walmart+.
  • How the savings figure is built. Walmart's page headlines $380 a year in savings, and its footnote says annual members with at least 12 months of membership save an average of $382, excluding the fee, estimated against non-member prices. It doesn't say which benefits drive the number, and the terms call such savings internal estimates that aren't guaranteed.
  • The price of the ad-free streaming upgrades, which the terms say is shown during the upgrade, and how benefits sharing works, which a benefit list published with the bundle includes but the page and terms don't describe.

The fine print

  • Walmart can change the terms, add or remove benefits and end offers without notice, and continued membership counts as acceptance.
  • Membership renews automatically at the fee then in effect, without further notice except where the law requires it.
  • Free delivery depends on inventory, time slots and the delivery address, and fuel, partner and streaming offers are set by third parties and can change.

What stands out about Walmart+

Walmart shows members what the fee has bought. The terms describe a "My Savings" area of the account with lifetime and year-to-date savings, calculated against non-member prices and fees. A membership with no points has no balance to check, so a running savings total does the job a points balance does, reminding members why they pay each renewal.

The currency is attached to events, not spending. Everyday purchases earn nothing, and Walmart Cash comes only from travel bookings, rebates and limited-time offers. That keeps the earn side cheap and lets Walmart reward behaviour it wants to teach, such as the $5 for Scan & Go in 2025.

The plan decides the perks. Trial and Assist members are left out of early access to hot deals, even though Assist's FAQ says members enjoy every benefit at half price. The membership has no tiers on paper, but the plan a member is on changes what they get.

What members should know going in:

  • It renews automatically. The $1 trial converts to a full-price plan unless you cancel first.
  • Store delivery needs $35, and streaming has ads unless you pay for an ad-free plan.
  • The savings figures are Walmart's estimates. Its pages give different streaming savings, up to $129 a year on the main page and up to $109 on the Assist page.

Is Walmart+ worth joining?

If you order Walmart delivery or fill up with gas regularly, probably yes. Our arithmetic: $98 a year is $8.17 a month, and Walmart's page example of Express Delivery saves up to $9.95 an order, so one Express order a month covers the fee on that benefit alone. Walmart reports that members who used the gas benefit weekly saved more than $100 on average last year, though that figure is Walmart's. Streaming adds value if you already pay for Paramount+ or Peacock. The monthly plan costs $57.40 more over a year, so it suits people who aren't sure they will stay. If you shop at Walmart a few times a year, take the $1 trial only if you will cancel before it renews. People who already shop at Sam's Club should price the $120 bundle before paying for Walmart+ alone.

What Shopify brands can learn from Walmart+

Several Walmart+ mechanics scale down to a Shopify brand running a paid membership.

  1. Charge a small amount for the trial. A $1 trial filters out people who only want the perk, and Walmart reserves its early access events for paid members. Offer a promotional first period and keep the best member-only access for the standard price.
  2. Show members what they have saved. A running "My Savings" total gives a membership without points something to look at. A brand can tally free shipping, discounts used and member prices in the account, and show the figure near renewal.
  3. Pay in a side currency for specific actions. Walmart Cash is earned through chosen offers rather than every order. A brand can pay a fixed credit for a first app order or a review, and keep the base membership about delivery and access.
  4. Offer a discounted plan to a group you want to reach. Assist and Student cost half the standard price for the same benefits, re-verified each year. A second tier with its own price lets a brand reach students or other groups without a separate product.

If you're building a paid membership program on Shopify, Mage's Memberships feature covers recurring billing monthly, quarterly or annual, a separate price for each tier, a trial or promotional rate before the standard price, automatic renewals, and self-service from the customer's account to view perks, update a payment method, switch billing cycle or cancel. Perks can include free shipping, a welcome discount, member-only codes, a first look at launches and sales, priority support, a one-off joining bonus and members-only cashback. Cashback has an approval delay, credit expiry days and clawback on refunds.

Shopify Plus vs Shopify: Features, Pricing & When to Upgrade

The most common thing we hear about Shopify Plus vs Shopify is wrong. Merchants treat Plus as "regular Shopify with a bigger invoice," a luxury tier you buy once you feel important enough.
