Introducing Points Multipliers for VIP Tiers
Your most loyal customers deserve more than just exclusive perks. They deserve to earn faster.
Today we're launching Points Multipliers for VIP Tiers, a new feature that lets merchants reward higher-tier customers with bonus points on the actions they take. The higher the tier, the faster they earn.
How It Works
The setup is straightforward. Each VIP tier can now be assigned its own points multiplier. Standard members earn at the base rate, while higher tiers earn at an accelerated pace.
For example, a store with a earning rule of 1 point per $1 spent could configure their tiers like this:

A Diamond member spending $100 earns 300 points instead of the standard 100. That value is immediately visible to the customer, making higher tiers significantly more attractive.
Two Multiplier Modes
Merchants can choose how broadly the multiplier applies:
Purchases only applies the multiplier exclusively to points earned from orders. This is a great starting point for merchants who want to keep things simple and reward spending behaviour directly.
All actions extends the multiplier to everything: purchases, reviews, birthdays, social follows, referrals, and more. This is ideal for merchants who want to maximise engagement across their entire loyalty program.
The multiplier can also be disabled at any time without affecting previously earned points.
Visible Across Every Touchpoint
Customers see their multiplied earning rate wherever they interact with the loyalty program:
- Loyalty widget displays the boosted points and a lightning bolt badge showing the active multiplier.
- Customer account sidebar reflects the same multiplied rates and tier status.
- On-page blocks embedded on the storefront show the adjusted earning values.
- Checkout displays the multiplied total with a note confirming the tier bonus has been applied.
There is no confusion and no hidden calculation. Customers understand exactly what their tier is earning them.
Built for Transparency
Every earning record stores both the base points and the multiplier that was applied at the time, giving merchants a clear audit trail. The multiplier only affects points earned going forward, so past earnings are never recalculated.
This means merchants can confidently adjust multiplier values or switch modes without worrying about disrupting existing point balances.
Why We Built This
This feature came directly from a merchant request. They wanted a way to give their VIP customers a stronger incentive to stay engaged and keep climbing tiers. Points multipliers create a self-reinforcing loop: higher multipliers make premium tiers more desirable, which motivates more purchases, which increases retention.
It's the kind of feature that makes the entire VIP system more compelling for customers.
Available Starting From Our Lowest Plan
Most loyalty platforms either don't offer per-tier multipliers or reserve them for enterprise pricing. With Mage, Points Multipliers for VIP Tiers are available starting from our lowest plan. No extra setup, no custom code required. It works out of the box across all customer-facing surfaces.
Getting Started
To enable Points Multipliers, head to your VIP Tiers settings in the Mage dashboard. Select your preferred multiplier mode, then assign a multiplier value to each tier on its edit page.
