Sea Rewards is the free loyalty program of OSEA Malibu in the US. Members earn 1 point for every $1 spent on oseamalibu.com, 2 or 3 points at the Current and Wave tiers, plus points for 14 other actions such as reviews, a birthday and referrals, and 500 points turn into a $5 coupon. A point is worth 1 cent, so the base return is 1% and the top tier returns 3%. Points can lapse after three months without activity, and the program's FAQ and terms disagree on how.

Last checked against OSEA Malibu's Sea Rewards page and FAQ and the Sea Rewards Terms (last updated 4/9/25), all as of 24 October 2026. Prices and rules are for the US store, in US dollars.

This guide is written by Graeme, co-founder of Mage, a loyalty and customer accounts platform for Shopify.

How to join Sea Rewards

Joining means creating a free OSEA account on oseamalibu.com. The account earns 50 points straight away, and the Join Now button on the Sea Rewards page leads to the sign-up form. You need a name and an email address, and you must be a US resident of the age of majority in your state. Teenagers aged 13 to 17 can take part only through an account created by a parent or guardian. Employees, contractors and companies can't join.

New members start in the Ripple tier. Your balance and tier show on your account page.

One caveat on geography: the terms limit Sea Rewards to US residents, in all 50 states, and say residents of any other country may not participate. The FAQ says the program is available to everyone, and adds that the free shipping perk is only for US domestic orders. This guide follows the terms.

A few rules sit behind the table:

  • Whole dollars: Points are earned on whole dollars, rounded to the nearest dollar, so $59.95 earns 60 points and $30.45 earns 30. Shipping, taxes and other charges earn nothing.
  • Reviews have no cap: You can post as many reviews as you like, for different products, and earn points for each. A photo review pays the same 10 points as a written one.
  • Once only: Creating an account and following on Instagram pay once. The birthday reward arrives once a year on or around your birthday, and a birthday entered within 30 days of it is delayed by about 30 days as fraud protection.
  • Timing: Points usually appear within 30 days of a purchase or activity.
  • Returns: Returning an order deducts the points it earned, and returns points you spent on it.
  • What doesn't earn: Purchases in retail stores and anywhere other than your account on oseamalibu.com earn no points and don't count towards a tier. The part of an order paid with points, gift card balance or store credit earns nothing either. If you split payment, you earn on the dollars paid by card.

Without buying anything, a new member can collect 205 points from the one-off actions: 50 for joining, 50 for email, 50 for SMS, 25 for the quiz, 10 each for the TikTok and Instagram follows and 10 for an article (our arithmetic, counting each once). That is $2.05 of the $5 needed for the first coupon.

What Sea Points are worth

A point is worth 1 cent. A $5 coupon costs 500 points, a $10 coupon 1,000 and a $15 coupon 1,500, and the terms give the same rate in an example where a $25 discount uses 2,500 points. What that means as a return on spending depends on the tier (our arithmetic):

TierPoints per $1Return on spend
Ripple11%
Current22%
Wave33%
Subscriber22%

A Ripple member buying $50 orders reaches the first $5 coupon after ten orders, and sooner once the sign-up points and the 100-point bonus for three orders in a year are counted. At Wave, the same $50 orders earn a coupon every 3.3 orders.

The smaller actions are worth very little: a review or a social follow is 10 cents. The 1,000-point referral reward is the most valuable single action, worth $10 and the same as 100 reviews.

How to redeem Sea Points

Members redeem points for coupon codes, then paste the code at checkout. There are two routes: log in to the rewards dashboard, open Ways to Redeem and copy a coupon code, or open the cart at checkout, where a dropdown shows the points you have and lets you apply them. You must be logged in to see your points at checkout.

How It Works: sign up to earn 50 points, earn points on every purchase, and 500 points equals $5 off your next order; Redeem Your Points shows $5, $10 and $15 coupons at 500, 1,000 and 1,500 points

How Sea Rewards works and the coupon ladder, from the Sea Rewards page as of 24 October 2026.

The limits come from the FAQ and the terms:

  • Minimum: You need at least 500 points, and points are used in steps of 500.
  • Cap: Up to 1,500 points per order, which is a $15 coupon.
  • Order size: The order subtotal must be at least $30, before discounts, tax and shipping. The rules as written allow a $15 coupon on a $30 order, which would take half off.
  • Stacking: Sea Rewards coupons can't be combined with promo codes or other offers, unless OSEA says so.
  • Immediate deduction: Points leave your balance the moment they become a coupon code. They are only refunded if OSEA decides the product is unavailable or can't be delivered.

Sea Rewards tiers and perks

The Sea Rewards tier grid, from the Sea Rewards page as of 24 October 2026.
More Skincare, More Rewards: Ripple $0 to $199.99 at 1x points per dollar, Current $200 to $399.99 at 2x, Wave $400+ at 3x, Subscriber for active subscription customers at 2x, with a perks grid

The Sea Rewards tier grid, from the Sea Rewards page as of 24 October 2026.

Sea Rewards has three spend tiers and a fourth for subscribers.

TierHow to get itPoints per $1Perks
RippleJoin1Birthday gift, points multiplier promotions, early access to promotions and products
Current$200 to $399.99 in a Program Year2Ripple perks
Wave$400+ in a Program Year3Current perks, deluxe samples, free shipping, a chance to review unreleased products
SubscriberActive subscription2Ripple perks, deluxe samples, free shipping

A blurb at the foot of the page says members get deluxe samples, while the tier grid limits them to Wave and Subscriber. This guide follows the grid. The cart on oseamalibu.com also shows free shipping on orders over $50 for everyone, so the free shipping perk matters mostly on smaller orders, assuming it has no minimum; the program page doesn't say.

How tiers are earned and kept

Each member has a Program Year of 12 consecutive months that starts when they reach a tier, whether by creating the account or by spending enough to move up. Once you reach a tier you keep it for the whole Program Year. Members must meet the spend requirement during the Program Year to keep or raise their status, and a member who doesn't is moved down to Ripple. You can win a higher tier back by spending the required amount, which starts a new 12-month period.

Only spend on OSEA products through your account on oseamalibu.com counts, and shipping, taxes and other charges are excluded.

Subscribers are placed in the Subscriber tier automatically, whatever they spend, and they never move into Wave. If a subscription ends, the member drops to Ripple.

The fine print

  • Expiry, FAQ version: To keep points and rewards from expiring, redeem them within 3 months of earning.
  • Expiry, terms version: Members must make a purchase or complete a listed activity every three months, or all their points are forfeited. The three-month clock starts at tier entry.
  • Coupons: How long a coupon code stays valid after it is created isn't published.
  • Changes: OSEA can change or end the program, its earning rates, redemption values and expiry at any time, with immediate effect.
  • No cash value: Points are promotional, have no cash value, can't be redeemed for cash and can't be gifted, sold or transferred.
  • Account closure: If an account is cancelled or terminated, you lose your tier and every point, even if you open a new account later.
  • Launch grant: Members who already had an account when the program launched received a one-time grant of points for spending between 1 June 2024 and 1 January 2025.

What stands out about Sea Rewards

Higher tiers earn faster, and they don't unlock rewards. The 1x, 2x and 3x rates are the main tier benefit, and every tier redeems at the same rate. That keeps the cost of the program tied to what members spend, and it gives a customer a clear reason to reach $200 or $400 inside a year.

Subscribers get a tier of their own. A subscriber earns 2x from the first order, gets deluxe samples and free shipping, and collects 50 points for joining and 80 for every renewal, but the Subscriber tier never leads to Wave. That ties the program to replenishment, which suits products people reorder, while leaving the top rate for customers who buy one-off.

Small actions pay for contact details and content. Email and SMS sign-up are worth 50 points each, and a review is 10, so the biggest sign-up rewards go to the channels OSEA can market through. The skin quiz at 25 points gets a customer to share their skin concerns.

What members should know going in:

  • Two versions of expiry. The FAQ describes points lapsing three months after they are earned, and the terms describe forfeiture after three months without activity. Redeem or earn something every quarter to be safe.
  • The referral reward is one-sided on the page. The referrer earns 1,000 points, and the friend's reward isn't published.
  • Coupons are small and capped. The most one order can take off is $15, and the order must be at least $30.
  • Only online account purchases count. Retail purchases earn nothing and don't count towards a tier.
  • Region wording differs. The terms are US only, and the FAQ says anyone can join.

Is Sea Rewards worth joining?

For any US customer buying OSEA online, yes: joining is free and 205 points of one-off actions arrive without a purchase. A regular buyer gets the most from it. Reaching $200 doubles the return to 2%, and $400 triples it to 3% plus free shipping and deluxe samples, which is worth planning an annual routine order around. A subscriber gets 2x and the extras with no spend threshold. An occasional buyer stays at 1%, so a $5 coupon takes about $500 of purchases, and with a three-month activity rule points can lapse before they are used. Anyone who buys OSEA mostly in retail stores earns nothing there.

What Shopify brands can learn from OSEA Malibu's Sea Rewards

OSEA keeps the redemption simple and puts the tier effort into earning rates. A few mechanics are worth copying:

  1. Make tiers a faster earn rate. Instead of a long list of tier rewards, let higher spend earn 2x and 3x points and keep redemption the same for everyone. In Mage, VIP tiers can be set on amount spent, points earned or number of orders, with multipliers such as 1.5x, 2x or 3x.
  2. Give subscribers their own lane. A subscriber tier plus points for joining and for each renewal ties the program to repeat orders. Mage supports subscription milestones, which award points when a renewal count is reached, with Loop Subscriptions, Recharge or Skio.
  3. Pay for contact details and keep the reward modest. Email and SMS sign-ups are worth more than a review, and a skin quiz gathers preferences. Mage rewards newsletter sign-ups captured by a popup app and SMS opt-ins, and a popup can offer points or store credit instead of a discount code.
  4. Make expiry forgiving and warn members. A rule that resets on activity feels fairer than a fixed clock on each point. In Mage, points expiry is off by default and can run a set number of days after earning or reset on each purchase, with a reminder before points drop off.
  5. Remove steps from redemption. Copying a code is one step too many. In Mage, rewards apply at Shopify checkout with no code to copy, and flexible rewards let customers slide points against a range of values.

If you're building a Shopify VIP tiers program on earning rates like this, Mage covers the structure above: tiers on spend, points or orders, multipliers by tier, birthday bonuses, subscription milestones, points expiry with reminders and a points-per-dollar earning rule.
